Port Stephens and its surrounds are home to a diverse range of natural wonders that are classified under state or national protection. Let Discovery Camps provide an excursion that will assist your students in gaining a better understanding of many aspects of their natural environment. With such a range of protected environments the educational opportunities a range of subjects from science and history to physical education can all be accommodated.
National Parks
Discovery Camps can organise for a National Parks and Wildlife ranger to escort your group on a personalised tour through Tomaree National Park. Visit historic WW 2 sites, get up close and personal with the wildlife, experience dipnetting in the wetlands or even spotlighting after dark. Worksheets can be provided on request depending on syllabus requirements.
Beaches, Bays, Oceans & Dunes
The oceans & bay play host to amazing mammals such as the most northern colony of fairy penguins, the friendly bottlenose dolphins and the magnificent humpback whales. Enjoy a cruise & interpretive commentary as you encounter the animals in their natural environment.
Or maybe the thrill of wind rushing through your hair as you slide down dunes in the largest moving sand mass in the southern hemisphere is more your style...Discovery Camps can organise 4WD tours ranging from 1 to 3 hours.
Flora and Fauna
The bush is home to some of Australia’s unique and iconic creatures – from koalas, kangaroos and sugar gliders to land monitors and tiny forest bats. Not to be out done is the variety of flora extending from the mountains to the coastline, comprising of the alpine forests of the Barrington Tops, large cedars surrounding the Myall Lakes to the rugged coastal vegetation and wildflowers of Port Stephens.
